About the 2018 Act to End Street Sleeping Symposium

In February 2018 the City of Sydney conducted a street count of those sleeping rough and they found 329 people in the CBD alone.

But the residents of Sydney don’t need a census to tell us what we see every day.  Street homelessness has escalated alarmingly.  Together we must act to end street sleeping.

Cities around the world are launching collective impact projects to end rough sleeping.  The Institute of Global Homelessness has invited Sydney to become a Vanguard city. To learn from best practice the world over. To form a collective impact program that aims to end street sleeping in Sydney by 2025. To restore dignity and hope to those who need our help more than ever.

The Symposium was held at Sydney’s Customs House on Friday 14th September 2018 and was hosted by the Act to End Street Sleeping Taskforce comprised of five large NGOs working in the homelessness sector. The Symposium was attended by the City of Sydney, representatives of state government departments, sector specialists and academia.
